PopovBass Architects has received numerous major awards from the Royal Institute of Australian Architects, including several Wilkinson Awards, the Robin Boyd Award and the Architecture Australia Prize.
Directors Alex Popov and Brian Bass say of the practice:
“PopovBass Architects has had extensive experience throughout Australia and overseas but predominantly in Sydney. Almost 30 years of delivering quality buildings has given us a clear understanding and insight of the Sydney’s climate, culture and lifestyle. This experience informs all our work and ensures that the projects are always culturally relevant, climatically appropriate and are well-loved by the end users.”
Ruby Tower is purposefully a pared back and elegant structure.
The building is designed to provide light-filled, airy apartments that take advantage of the site. The building’s façade changes subtly to respond to the context and the climate. The east and west facades are fitted with vertical louvers to allow views to the surrounding district and provide shading. The northern façade has horizontal louvers as these provide optimum solar control.
Ruby Tower is grounded by a red brick base that provides increased privacy and protection to the lower apartments. As the building rises, the structure becomes lighter and more open.
